Effects of lactic acid bacteria

Effect 3: Inflammation-reducing effect of nano-type lactic acid bacteria® nEF

The results of the experiment showed that nano-sized lactic acid bacteria have an anti-inflammatory effect. The following is the experimental report.

Exam Content

We administered nEF to mice with colitis to examine its effect on improving inflammatory symptoms.

Test results

In the nEF-treated group, symptoms of enteritis such as weight loss and diarrhea were improved. Pathological findings after autopsy showed that the length of the large intestine was maintained and the mucosal tissue of the large intestine was normalized compared to the non-nEF-treated group (Figures 1 and 2).

When the proportion of immune cells in the intestinal immune tissues (Peyer's patches, mesenteric lymph nodes) was measured, it was found that in the nEF-treated group, the proportion of Treg cells, which are immune cells that suppress inflammation, increased, while the proportion of Th17 cells, which are immune cells that promote inflammation, decreased (Figure 3).

Commentary

The symptoms of colitis were improved by administration of nEF. This is thought to be because nEF is absorbed from the Peyer's patches of the intestine, increasing the number of Treg cells, which act on the intestinal immune system to suppress inflammation, and alleviating inflammation in the mucosal tissues of the colon.
