The effects of lactic acid bacteria

Effect 2: The effect of nano-type lactic acid bacteria® nEF in preventing norovirus infection

The results of the experiment showed that nano-sized lactic acid bacteria have the effect of preventing norovirus infection. The following is the experimental report.

Exam Content

Mice were orally administered nano-type lactic acid bacteria (nano-treated E. faecalis KH strain, hereafter referred to as nEF) or non-nano-type lactic acid bacteria (non-nano-treated E. faecalis KH strain, hereafter referred to as non-nano-treated nEF) every day from 7 days before to 21 days after norovirus inoculation, and the amount of virus in the feces and the neutralizing antibody titers in the serum were compared.

Test results

Figure 1: Amount of virus in feces after norovirus infection

図1 ノロウイルス感染後の排泄物中のウイルス量

As shown in Figure 1, the group that ingested nEF had a significant reduction compared to distilled water on days 1, 2, and 4 after infection. In addition, only the nEF intake group showed a reduction on days 5, 6, and 8 after infection, and the nEF intake group was found to have a higher defense against viral infection than the non-nanoized nEF intake group.

Figure 2: Neutralizing antibody titers in serum 21 days after norovirus infection

Figure 2. Serum neutralizing antibody titers 21 days after norovirus infection

Analysis of serum neutralizing antibody titers 21 days after norovirus infection (Figure 2) revealed that the titers were higher in the nEF and non-nanoized nEF intake groups. Furthermore, the nEF intake group showed higher titers than the non-nanoized nEF intake group.

Commentary

Ingestion of nEF was found to have a protective effect against norovirus infection. The effect was dose-dependent. Furthermore, nano-processing of lactic acid bacteria is important because the effect was enhanced by nano-processing.
